Kairui Shi

I'm a senior undergraduate student at Wuhan University, majoring in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Expected to graduate in July 2025.

I am currently a visiting student at AI4CE Lab@NYU led by Prof. Chen Feng.

At Wuhan University I was fortunate enough to work with Prof. Yongjun Zhang at his Skyearth Lab. And I was also lucky enough to work with Prof. Zhenzhong Chen and ARF Wanjie Sun at Institute of Intelligence and Perception.

I’ve earned the highest amateur rank in Go at a young age and still love playing Go and watching professional matches in my free time. I’m also into calligraphy and have a top-level certificate. And I love playing the violin, enjoying video games and watching anime!

Research

At the broadest level, my research interests lie in the intersection of computer vision, photogrammetry and machine learning.

Specifically, I'm interested in 3D reconstruction and SLAM, focusing on high-precision mapping, reconstruction, and restoration of objects, streets, and cities, while also perceiving embedded information to enable interaction.

So, are we able to create an immersive and interactive virtual world? With the advancement of neural networks, hardware performance, and robotics, the speed and accuracy of reconstruction will continue to improve. This is not a research direction limited to a single field; its impact will inevitably extend to multiple domains, such as medicine, anthropology, and the gaming industry—seemingly unrelated fields or industries.
